“The Boy Is STILL Mine, ho!” – Brandy and Monica Hit the Studio Together Again

HOLD THE BLOODY BURGER PHONE!! The second and third (respectively) best 90s pop/R&B princesses, Brandy and Monica (don’t even bother asking who number one is, it should go without saying) are teaming up again on a new track for the first time in 14 years! Monica done did a tweet yesterday letting slip that she was up in the studio with her pal. SEE!

Other than the fact that I’m actually quite upset that they’re mates irl, I was secretly hoping they were still beefing over Mehki, I’m mostly stoked on this as I look forward to reenacting the song with my frenemy du jour, much like I’ve done with ‘The Boy Is Mine’ quite regularly since 1998, ASAP! So let us just take a moment to recall the majesty that was the last time they hit the studio together, shall we?

Jay-Z made a song featuring his newborn baby and I’m crying!

SHE’S HERE! The offspring of the most divine power couple since Orpheus and Eurydice that is Queen Bey and Hov, HRH Blue Ivy Carter, finally decided to grace us with her messianic presence on Saturday and somewhere between feeding, burping and AM nappy changing (yeah, right) Jigga somehow managed to find some time to record a song featuring his new born daughter (seriously wtf?), the head B.I.C. and post it on his official blog. Yes, that is her crying at the end. And yes, this is me crying in my bedroom, wahwahwahhhhhhh!! Welcome to the world Baby Blue and welcome Jay-Z to our neverending ‘people we wish were our dad’ list.

This Is The Best New Song I’ve Heard All Year!

Scissor Sisters Vs Krystal Pepsy (AKA Azaelia Banks) – Shady Love

Big talk there, yes I know, but having been stuck in a 90s girl rap K hole on Spotify since the clock struck midnight, heralding in this blessed new year, I’m pretty sure it’s the only new song I’ve actually heard this year, thus, by default, making it my favourite. (No, that’s a lie, I heard that Alesha Dixon x Weight Watchers collabo too, so yes, this still wins)

Well, this is incredibly awkward as I spent a large portion of the 2000s passionately hating Scissor Sisters (not lesbians, I love lezzas, the rubbish band I mean) but I REALLY like this song :( But then again I REALLY like Azaelia Banks, so that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. Plus the video is adorbz, so there’s that.

Meet The Homeless Heroes

The Homeless Heroes are two guys, one is an artist and the other is a rapper, and their videos consist of freestyles about old cartoons and video games. What’s not to like? We’ve posted our favourite, an ode to Doug Funnie but check out their youtube channel for freestyles on Ninja Turtles and Mike Tyson’s Super Punch-out. If you subscribe to the channel you’re automatically entered into a draw for artwork from the videos.  Hands-off the turtle one though, cos it’s ours.

[NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: speaking of Doug Funnie and...Douggie-ing, feast your eyes on this beaut]

Mila Kunis and JT on Chatty Man – total smangfest ensues…

Smangfest.

We all have no qualms that JT needs to drop the ‘serious actor’  crap,  and drag Timbaland’s game back up to make Justified II (He could save pop music and call the album Justin Time –  He can call it Justin Case,  Justifiable,  Justifarian – Whatever as long as that shit gets made) but in the mean time he seems pretty set on acting, so let’s dwell on that for a hot minute.

JT is in a new film with girlcrush du jour Mila Kunis -which from what I’ve gathered is just an exact remake of that Kutcher/Portman film that got released a few months ago – but none of that’s really important. The important thing is, is that they’re promoting the shit out of it through various media outlets and ‘totes hilars’ things happen, like him doing an impression of a New Yorker on bail trying to impregnate Mila Kunis, as shown in the clip above. You can watch this episode of Chatty Man on 4OD whilst you’re  figuring out who is the bread and who is the filling in this smangwich.

FINALYYYYYYY Watch Beyonce’s New Video for ‘Girls’

Ok, so look, I’m a HARDCORRRRRRRRRE Beyonce Stan so it’s probably best that I just leave this here and not say anything that will affect my, you know, unbiased journalistic integrity. That and er…the video and song are both kind of, just alright? :( But enough of that…*bows to HRH Queen Beyonce Giselle Knowles the First*

Music Monday: Marques Toliver – 4 Page Letter

Brought to our attention by our homegirl KidSisterly‘s blawg, here is native New Yorker Marqes Toliver’s beautiful string accompanied cover of Aaliyah’s classic, ’4 Page Letter’ (courtesy of Bounty TV). SO dope.

He’s playing showcases at SXSW this week but you can check him out in the UK when he plays Rough Trade East and The Camden Crawl next month. Peep his MySpaz for further info.

End of the G-Funk Era: R.I.P Nate Dogg

(pic stolen from Tumblr, sorry)

Clickety click for a Spotify playlist of some of our fave tracks featuring the late great hip-hop hook master, Nate Dogg, who sadly passed away yesterday evening. R.I.P homie.

Music Monday: Cee Lo Green – ‘Bodies’

Cee Lo is killing it with his videos recently, isn’t he? This for the upcoming single Bodies, the third from his huge ‘The Lady Killer’ album, and between the super cool animated effect, film noir influenced storyline and styling and cameos from Janelle Monae, model Kerry Washington, a host of musicians AAAAAAAND the great Karl Largerfeld, this has got to be his best yet!

Music Monday: Sébastien Tellier – ‘Look’

New song from one of our Top 10 favourite musical Frenchies. Cool video, if you don’t mind staring at an animated booty morphing for 4 minutes. It’s strangely hypnotic.

P.S. Why is it “Music Monday”? Who made the rule that just because you can alliterate it it’s true? WHO?! And if you must then why not “Mollusc Monday” or something equally as arbitrary?

HAPPY MOLLUSC MONDAY!
