Seeing as this video’s had 4,618,423 views in like 24 hours (423 of those being me) you have more than likely already seen it but shut up and watch it again because she rules! LET’S OPEN UP THIS PIT!
The Homeless Heroes are two guys, one is an artist and the other is a rapper, and their videos consist of freestyles about old cartoons and video games. What’s not to like? We’ve posted our favourite, an ode to Doug Funnie but check out their youtube channel for freestyles on Ninja Turtles and Mike Tyson’s Super Punch-out. If you subscribe to the channel you’re automatically entered into a draw for artwork from the videos. Hands-off the turtle one though, cos it’s ours.
[NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: speaking of Doug Funnie and...Douggie-ing, feast your eyes on this beaut]
Ok, so look, I’m a HARDCORRRRRRRRRE Beyonce Stan so it’s probably best that I just leave this here and not say anything that will affect my, you know, unbiased journalistic integrity. That and er…the video and song are both kind of, just alright? But enough of that…*bows to HRH Queen Beyonce Giselle Knowles the First*
Brought to our attention by our homegirl KidSisterly‘s blawg, here is native New Yorker Marqes Toliver’s beautiful string accompanied cover of Aaliyah’s classic, ’4 Page Letter’ (courtesy of Bounty TV). SO dope.
He’s playing showcases at SXSW this week but you can check him out in the UK when he plays Rough Trade East and The Camden Crawl next month. Peep his MySpaz for further info.
Not gonna lie guys, this is so beautiful I may have shed a single solitary tear.
You may remember the PS22 Chorus (a simply adorable Elementary school choir from Staten Island) for their Just Dance cover which was viralling (is that a word? It is now!) all up on the interwebz last year. That was good, this version of Phoenix’s Lisztomania is better. And all I can do is watch all their videos now (highlights including covers of Bjork, Owl City and Empire of the Sun songs)
Phoenix is one of those bands that everyone on the internet bums but pretty much no-one gives a shit about IRL. Well boo to you real people, because they’re rad and Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was quite possibly one of the best releases of last year. So if you don’t know, now you know.
These kids are amazing, sorry to get all mushy but the genuine joy and that last fleck of innocence that comes across in them got me all emosh. Why did none of us ever an awesome music teacher like this?? Would have been pretty sweet to sing something other than He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands in school every now and then
Check out their version of Empire State of Mind too:
Introducing 17-year-old (yes, 17. Miley Cyrus better fall back) Dominique Young Unique from Tampa Florida. Yes, she does look like a guest on Maury, she’s ‘hood, got crap tattoos and some sick beats – she’s basically Lil’ Wayne with a vagina, but don’t let that put you off because her flow is RIDICULOUS so I’m guessing she’d hands down annihilate Weezy in a battle. And if some of the backdrop looks familiar that’s because it was shot by Simone Ghilardotti on a recent a trip to London.
…nah, DEFINITELY love! I think this might be my new summer jam. I’d be keeping an eye on this one if I were you. Must find out more!
Well I thought Videophone was amazing but this my friends, THISSSSSS…has rendered me quite speechless. The cigarette glasses?? The cholas?? The coke can roller-set?? The PussyWagon from Kill Bill?? The JCDC outfits?? Gaga’s telephone wig/eyepatch?? WHAAAAAAAT?!
(Beyonce trying to so obviously bite my style, Gaga’s cooch in my grill and the shameless Virgin Mobile and Polaroid product placement aside) The styling is amazing, both ladies (and all the extras!) look incredible (I’ve never wanted a yellow PVC dress and matching Stetson more in all my life!) and although I wasn’t that keen on the song before it is now a certified banger.
A new bar for music videos has been set. Haters, take note and bow down.
Today marks the 13th anniversary of the death of the one and only Notorious B.I.G, and 13 years later his tunes are still bangers and his videos still some of the greatest hip hop videos of all time…OF ALL TIME! I’m referring mainly to the Sky’s The Limit vid which will forever be one of my faves, the mid to late-90s in general were a pretty good time for hip hop videos, (Hype Williams made sure of that) or is that just nostalgia creeping in?
Anyway, you know what just freaked me out? Biggie was about my age when he died :/ kind of puts things in perspective a bit. I remember listening to him when I was about 10 and he was like…a grown-up. I think that means that I’M a grown-up?? Must reassess life.
So let’s celebrate the life of Mr Christopher Wallace with some of our fave videos…
I think it’s fair to say that OK Go have got themselves a bit of a rep’ for killer videos now, and their new offering - This Too Shall Pass - MAY just possibly be even better than Here It Goes Again. It took them months to design and build this contraption so the least you can do is check it!
xo
(p.s. Not quite sure how this turned into a new music videos blog, I will rectify the situation the minute I’m inspired)
This video comprises of near toxic levels of win. It features cameo appearances from The RZA (yes!), Joe Jonas (yes!), Jake Gyllenhaal (YESSSS!) AND Lil John (HWUT?!), see I told you, insane.
That mixed with the fact that I bum Vampire Weekend anyway and Contra is already one of my fave CDs of 2010 makes Kirby a happy girl. Improve your life in 5mins and 3secs.
